SAUL LEITER RETROSPEKTIVE

Saul Leiter (19232013) has only in recent years finally received his due as one of the great pioneers of color photography. This ca n perhaps be attributed to the fact that Leiter saw himself for a long time mainly as a painter. After coming to New York in 1946, h e exhibited alongside Abstract Expressionists like Willem de Kooning before beginning in the late 1940s to take black and white phot ographs.
